Adjacent to the Grassland Mountain Lodge and under construction now is our very own observatory with an electric roll-off roof and a warm room. Located at 4,200 feet elevation, the observatory will be equipped with a 16-inch Meade f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, attached to a Paramount ME robotic mount on a permanent pier. A laptop computer will control the telescope. The guidescope is a William Optics 90mm Megrez f/6.9 APO Refractor. The observatory will also feature a portable TeleVue-NP101 f/5.4 APO Refractor, an excellent multi-purpose photo and visual telescope. Unique to the mountain communities of Western North Carolina, the observatory at The Preserve at Little Pine contains one of the most powerful telescopes in all of Western North Carolina.
